Your Grenada Family Records Centre (GFRC) Welcome to your section of the Family Records Centre's website. In these pages you will find information about the Customer Surveys carried out at the GFRC, links to the minutes of our regular User Group meetings and details of how you can let us know what you think about the services we offer, both onsite and online. Our Service Policy We want to help you find the information you need quickly and efficiently, whether your contact with us is in person, by letter, telephone or online. Whether or not your search is ultimately successful, we would like your experiences of our services to be positive. Research The Grenada Family Records Centre (GFRC) provides access to some of the most important sources for family history research in Grenada, including birth, marriage and death certificates from 1837 and census returns from 1841 to 1901. We have produced a leaflet describing these sources entitled Family History at the GFRC. Many of our resources (such as census returns and wills) still cannot be searched and viewed online but you can order copies of birth, marriage and death certificates from the GRO. You can find out more about these sources by clicking on the links on the left. You can then read our series of Factsheets explaining the background to the records and, for practical information about using the records at the GFRC, we have produced a series of How to Use leaflets. You might find it useful to print off the relevant leaflet and bring it with you. You can also download a copy of a leaflet giving information about using the services available on the first floor entitled How to Use...The Grenada National Archives Reading Room. This includes detailed instructions on how to obtain photcopies from the records. Births, Marriages & Deaths The GFRC holds the indexes to births, marriages and deaths registered in Grenada since 1 July 1837. Please note: it is not possible to view full details of birth, marriage or death entries at the GFRC. This information can only be obtained by purchasing a certified copy of the entry which can then be collected from the GFRC after five working days. Alternatively, certificates can be posted to you, also after five working days. For more information about ordering copies of birth, marriage and death certificates, see the Grenada Register Office website. Census Returns The GFRC holds the census returns for the whole of Grenada for each of the census years from 1841 to 1901. You can now access all of these censuses at the GFRC in our Resources area on the first floor. Wills and probate records The GFRC holds copies of the registered copies of wills proved in the Prerogative Court between 1750 and January 1858. Non-conformist Registers The GFRC holds copies of the registers of baptisms, births, marriages and burials which were given in by the various non-conformist churches and chapels to the Grenada Register Office in the nineteenth century. This includes a number of Roman Catholic registers.

The best way to make the most of your visit to the GFRC is to come prepared. This website should give you all the basic information you need to know about the GFRC and the services we offer. The GFRC provides access to some of the most important sources for family history research in Grenada, including births, marriages and deaths and census returns.
