Paper Conservation Manual
Contents
Introduction
The Paper Conservation Manual, compiled by members of the AIC Book and Paper Specialty Group. The BPG Paper Manual was begun with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
They now have an online version or wiki addition of the Paper Conservation Manual which allows for an ever expanding and changing resource for paper conservators and allied professionals. The 1994 print edition of the manual provided a starting off point for the web edition.
* Members of the Book and Paper Group are eligible to contribute to the wiki. Going forward, the wiki will provide a forum for sharing innovations, new techniques, traditions, research, and all things paper conservation. Please share what you know.
The group are seeking conservators with knowledge and expertise. Feel free to contact a member of the wiki team to learn how to become a contributor. They can also pair conservators with varying skills and interest: one with content and one with expertise in wiki markup and editing skills. Both types of individuals are needed.

Print Edition
A complete and unchanged copy of the print edition of the Paper Conservation Manual can be found at: Original PCC. The print edition has been preserved in its entirety as a record of all the hard work and expertise that came before us.
The Paper Conservation Catalog (PCC) was published from 1984-1994 by the AIC Book and Paper Group, with assistance from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The PCC was developed by, and for, professional conservators. While persons in related fields will benefit from being acquainted with its content, the PCC is not intended to provide step-by-step recipes for the untrained. When using chapters, readers are strongly encouraged to consult the growing body of relevant literature published since the PCC ended.
The PCC began as a volunteer, collaborative effort, in the absence of much published literature, to exchange information among paper conservators, particularly the specific techniques and insights gained through practical experience. Readers will notice that, over the years, most chapters grew in length and incorporated more bibliographic references, as the availability of other literature increased. Readers are encouraged to read the front matter for further details on the project and its participants. The AIC Book and Paper Group Publications Committee is currently working with a special task force to determine the future of the project.
